In response to the needs of sick children receiving treatment at the Hong Kong Children's Hospital, in 2018 The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust approved a donation of HK$390 million to support the construction of the RMHC (Kwun Tong House) Jockey Club Building.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club announced today (15 November) the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) with the University of Hong Kong (“HKU”), the University of Cambridge and the International Vaccine Institute (“IVI”) to establish the global headquarters of the new Hong Kong Jockey Club Global Health Institute in Hong Kong. It is the city’s first institution dedicated to bringing the latest translational vaccine technology to Hong Kong through collaboration between local and global academics and institutions. The signing of the MOU follows the Chief Executive’s 2023 Policy Address announcement of initiatives to strengthen capacity to combat communicable diseases and promote vaccine development.

In Hong Kong many low-income people cannot afford a balanced and nutritious diet, especially the underprivileged elderly who require soft food that can be easily swallowed. A study shows that 60% of elderly in residential homes and 40% of those receiving day care support services experience varying degrees of swallowing difficulties. To address this need, The Hong Kong Jockey Club has approved a donation of HK$290 million through its Charities Trust to the Bo Charity Foundation to construct the Food Angel Jockey Club Food Production Centre in Sha Tin. Expected to commence operation in the first half of 2025, the centre will become Hong Kong’s largest food rescue and production centre for charitable food assistance, increasing production capacity from around 3 million to over 9 million meals per year, serving over 36,000 disadvantaged people.

Last year, the HKSAR Government launched the Strive and Rise Programme to help 2,800 young people from underprivileged families broaden their horizons, reinforce their self-confidence, develop a positive outlook on life, set goals for their future, and strive for upward mobility.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust marked the 25th anniversary of its Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships at a dinner last night (2 November) where it was pleased to give new scholarships to 106 students and congratulated 45 recently graduated JC Scholars. It also announced the awardees of two new scholarships - The Hong Kong Jockey Club Chairman’s Scholarship and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Striding On Scholarship.

In today’s Policy Address (25 October), the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region John Lee announced a series of initiatives to strengthen epidemic preparedness in Hong Kong and to enhance regional joint prevention and control.

In celebration of the remarkable success achieved by the Hong Kong, China team at the Hangzhou Asian Games, which brought home a record-breaking 53 medals, The Hong Kong Jockey Club staged the Hong Kong China’s Asian Games Medallists Celebration Raceday today (22 October) at Sha Tin Racecourse. The raceday featured a cheque presentation ceremony for the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme (“JCAIAS”), through which the Club granted a total of HK$32.5 million in cash incentives to the medallists.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club will stage the Hong Kong China’s Asian Games Medallists Celebration Raceday at Sha Tin Racecourse on 22 October (Sunday) in recognition of the tremendous success achieved by the Hong Kong, China delegation at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, which brought home a record-breaking total of 53 medals. There will also be a cheque presentation ceremony for the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme (JCAIAS).

The Hong Kong men’s football team have advanced solidly in the 19th Hangzhou Asian Games to achieve their best-ever performance in an edition of the Asiad. In a staunch show of support for the team, The Hong Kong Jockey Club will offer free admission to Happy Valley Racecourse for the public to enjoy the bronze medal match between Hong Kong, China and Uzbekistan on Saturday (7 October) afternoon. Let’s cheer for the Hong Kong team and hope our players score an historic win.
