Hong Kong is increasingly a city of pet-lovers, with more than 10% of families now owning a domestic pet. Unfortunately, with rising ownership comes the risk of pets being ill-treated or abandoned, while stray animals are potentially a public health risk through the spread of zoonotic diseases.

Today (8 March) saw the opening of the CLAP@JC Conference, a two-day forum at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre bringing together eminent speakers from Hong Kong and overseas to discuss the career and life development needs of young people.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club (“the Club”) and the Institute of Philanthropy (“IoP”), a charitable organisation established by the Club and its Charities Trust, are pleased to jointly announce today (4 March) the signing of three co-operation agreements in support of health initiatives announced in the Chief Executive’s 2023 Policy Address. Under these initiatives, the Club will provide HK$3 billion to strengthen epidemic preparedness in Hong Kong and to enhance regional co-operation in the Greater Bay Area for joint prevention and control.

Hong Kong is facing a mental health crisis. The COVID-19 pandemic, as well as socio-economic pressures, have raised stress levels across the community. The situation is most critical among the young and the elderly. According to a survey, 2.8 per cent of Hong Kong students said they had suicidal thoughts in the 2022/23 academic year. For the elderly, deteriorating health coupled with loneliness and bereavement leaves them at greater risk of depression and suicide.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has been pleased to support the Hong Kong Arts Festival for more than half a century, bringing world-class performances to our city, building audience appreciation for the arts, and helping to nurture local talent.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club will once again be joining the International Chinese New Year Night Parade as Hong Kong welcomes in the Year of the Dragon on the first day of Chinese New Year (10 February). This is the 25th year the Club has participated.

With Hong Kong facing a rapidly ageing population, the city has a growing need for residential care services. To address this need, and to help the underprivileged elderly age with dignity and respect, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has supported the Banyan Services Association (“BSA”) to renovate and purchase furniture and equipment for the new BSA Home for the Elderly.

Over 4,000 runners with intellectual disabilities and their pair-up partners competed in the TWGHs “iRun” – Hong Kong Jockey Club Special Marathon (“iRun”) 2024 today (14 January). This is the 13th year The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has supported the event. Funded by the Trust and organised by the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (“TWGHs”), the special marathon aims to promote social inclusion and encourage community participation in sports.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club ("the Club") was today (8 January) awarded the title "Outstanding Contributor to the Hangzhou Asian Games" by the Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee ("HAGOC") in recognition of its contribution to the success of the equestrian events of the Hangzhou Asian Games. This was followed by the first Joint Conference on Hangzhou-Hong Kong Equine Sports Development Collaboration, where the Hangzhou Municipal Government and the Club discussed further co-operation with respect to equine sports, cultural promotion and youth exchange, as well as future plans for co-operation.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club announced today (8 January) the promotion of Mr Moray Taylor-Smith to the position of Executive Director, Security, Integrity and Information Security with effect from 15 January 2024.
