To foster public understanding and bring out the unique characteristics of Sham Shui Po District, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has donated nearly HK$4 million to HULU Culture to organise the HKJC Heritage x Art x Design Walk (H.A.D. Walk) Project – Sham Shui Po Creativity for all. Today (3 April), the Club’s Executive Director, Charities, Douglas So joined HULU Culture Chairman Dr Ng Chun Hung to announce details of the Sham Shui Po Cultural iTour, one of the core elements of the Project.
Mr Douglas So, Executive Director, Charities of The Hong Kong Jockey Club noted that the Jockey Club had put much effort into preserving local culture, and believed conservation should include both tangible and intangible heritage. “This is why the Club is so delighted to support the HAD Walk. Through this project, the rich history and cultural traditions of Sham Shui Po can be shared with everyone in Hong Kong and abroad, as well as giving the local residents new pride in their district.”
HULU Culture Director Iman Fok thanked for the Jockey Club the donation that made the project possible. “We called this project ‘Creativity for all’ to reflect how the young can gain new insights and creative ideas through learning from traditional cultures, craftsmanship, arts and design. This helps give a new life to Sham Shui Po, even Hong Kong as a whole.”
Organised by HULU Culture, H.A.D. Walk is being staged for 10 months at the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) and around the Sham Shui Po neighbourhood. It features a series of exhibitions, design workshops, cultural tours, creative bazaars, community performances and education programmes to give participants a better understanding of Sham Shui Po district. Apart from a community research study and design workshop launched earlier this year, the iTour of the district, which can be downloaded onto iPads, will start from this month and the exhibition will be held in JCCAC between July and September.
