Jockey Club continues to spread love-your-family message in the community

27/03/2011

To further promote the message of health, happiness and harmony (3Hs) among families in the community, FAMILY: A Jockey Club Initiative for a Harmonious Society and the Christian Family Service Centre (CFSC) have jointly organised a ‘Learning Family’ programme in Kwun Tong District. Tsui Ping (South) Estate will be the first area to take part in the 14-month programme, which involves spreading the 3Hs message to residents so as to foster mutual understanding among families and establish a harmonious community.

Today (27 March), the Jockey Club’s Executive Director, Charities, Douglas So joined Kwun Tong District Council Chairman Bunny Chan, Housing Department Deputy Director (Estate Management) Albert Lee, Social Welfare Department Assistant Director (Family & Child Welfare) Anna Mak, FAMILY Project Principal Investigator Prof T H Lam and CFSC Chairman of the Board Prof Alex Kwan to officiate at the launch ceremony on the estate.

Mr So said he was delighted to see how actively the Housing Department and the estate’s Mutual Aid Committees were supporting the project. “I expect in the coming few months, the Mutual Aid Committees will spread the 3Hs messages to each and every family in Tsui Ping Estate through various means.” He said the programme aims to use the neighbourhood environment to encourage families to continue learning how to live healthily, happily and harmoniously, supported by the tripartite efforts of the community, academic sector and social service groups.

Prof Kwan thanked the Jockey Club for its donation and the various other sectors for their support. He pointed out that in a knowledge-based economy like Hong Kong, people rarely spend time and effort to maintain and enhance family relationships. Therefore the project can provide a good opportunity for the residents to learn how to develop and maintain the 3Hs. He hoped the participants would benefit from the project and spread the loving family message to others.

As part of the ceremony, members of Tsui Ping (South) Estate Management Advisory Committee proclaimed “Eight Easy Ways to Love Your Family”: (1) Learn something new with your family, (2) Exercise regularly with your family, (3) Share your feelings with your family, (4) Communicate regularly with your family, (5) Encourage and praise your family, (6) Live a healthy life with your family, (7) Be content and appreciate life together with your family, and (8) Live a harmonious life with your family.

FAMILY: A Jockey Club Initiative for a Harmonious Society is a citywide project launched by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust with HK$250 million funding, in collaboration with the School of Public Health of The University of Hong Kong.  The project aims to identify the sources of family problems, devise suitable preventive measures and promote the “3Hs” through a citywide household survey, intervention projects and public education programmes.  Further details of FAMILY are available at www.family.org.hk
