Jockey Club funds covered play area at Sai Kung camp

11/12/2010

To allow the public to fully enjoy the camping experience even under adverse weather conditions, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has helped The Boys' & Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong (BGCA) convert an outdoor basketball court at its Bradbury Camp in Sai Kung into a covered multi-purpose area for conducting indoor activities.,

Today (11 December), the Club’s Executive Director, Charities, Douglas So joined Permanent Secretary for Labour & Welfare Paul Tang, BGCA Executive Committee Chairman Dr Roy Chung, and BGCA Camp Sub-committee Chairman Lawrence Lam at a ceremony to officially open this multi-purpose area, named the Jockey Club Fun Square, at the Hong Kong Bradbury Camp.

Mr So noted that the Club was committed to youth development and its support to BGCA was one of the examples. In the past decade alone, the Jockey Club has contributed over HK$2 billion on youth-related projects. “We believe a healthy body is just as important as a healthy mind. Therefore, we have initiated the ‘P.A.T.H.S. to Adulthood: A Jockey Club Youth Enhancement Scheme’ in 2005 to establish positive values and help them face challenges encountered along the road to adulthood.”

Mr Tang complimented the Jockey Club Fun Square, with a newly covered basketball court, could provide more space for camp activities and more dynamic services to the users.

Since 1947, the Trust has donated close to HK$128 million to BGCA, including supporting Modernisation of Children & Youth Integrated Service Centres and Comprehensive Support Project for Special Needs Children and Parents. In 2007, the Trust has supported the Bradbury Camp to acquire a portable planetarium projector and dome to establish the first mobile astronomy classroom in Hong Kong with a simulation of stargazing experience during all sorts of weather. The latest Jockey Club Fun Square also provides a rock climbing wall for young people to train their climbing skills.
