Club supports Insomnia Treatment Project for the Elderly

22 December 2008

With support from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, The Hong Kong Society for the Aged (SAGE) has implemented "The Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant: Insomnia Treatment Project for the Elderly". With the aim of enhancing awareness of this issue among the public and professionals, and highlighting the importance of quality sleep to the elderly, a promotion day featuring experience sharing, performances and game stalls was held at Island Resort Mall at Chai Wan yesterday (21 December).

The project offers integrated treatment services including counselling, therapeutic groups, Chinese and Western medicine, and auricular and hypnotic therapies, as well as comprehensive assessments for elderly people suffering from insomnia. Through community education programmes, the elderly are provided with knowledge about quality sleep and the public informed about the problems of late-life insomnia and mood disturbance. In addition, training workshops are organised for professionals to enhance their skills in the treatment of late-life insomnia.

The promotion day organised by SAGE was an opportunity for the public to learn more about the issue of elderly insomnia through various game stalls, complimentary Chinese and western medicine consultations and sleep quality assessments.
