Jockey Club Arts for the Disabled Scheme Arts Exhibition 2008 shows off artistic talents

12 December 2008

The Jockey Club Arts for the Disabled Scheme (JCADS) launched its Arts Exhibition 2008 today (12 December) in Tuen Mun Town Hall. Taking the theme of "Nurturing", 1,000 art works created by some 1,100 students and trainees of the Scheme are being exhibited. They include a wide range of exhibits in two-dimensional and three-dimensional formats, such as painting, ceramics, crafts, puppetry, Chinese calligraphy and Chinese knots.

JCADS was launched by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust in 2003 in collaboration with the Labour and Welfare Bureau, following a Trust donation of HK$27.71 million. Its purposes are to empower disabled people of all ages to develop their creative and artistic potential in different art forms, and to give the community an opportunity to appreciate their artistic talents through public performances and exhibitions. It also helps promote inclusive arts involving both the disabled and able-bodied. Over 6,000 students of special schools and some 1,000 people with disabilities have benefited from the Scheme each year.

The JCADS Arts Exhibition provides a major annual platform for people with disabilities to showcase their creative works of art to the public. Arts Exhibition 2008 can be seen at the Exhibition Gallery in Tuen Mun Town Hall from now until 16 January 2009, and is open from 10:00 am to 7:30 pm daily.  Admission is free.
