9 December 2008

Donations made by The Hong Kong Jockey Club, through its Charities Trust, to Hon Wah Educational Organisation and the Hong Kong Institute of Contemporary Culture have enabled these two innovative local educational establishments to acquire standard furniture and equipment for their new school premises. Opening ceremonies for both schools were held last Saturday (6 December).

Hon Wah College

A Trust donation of HK$3.9 million in 2006 has helped to cover part of the standard furniture and equipment costs for the new school premises of Hon Wah College, located in Siu Sai Wan. In acknowledgement of the Trust's donation, the College has named one of its buildings "The Hong Kong Jockey Club Composite Building". Since 2007, the college has also presented trophies named the "Hon Wah College Jockey Club Outstanding Students Awards" to its top performers each school year. Operated under the Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS), the College uses Putonghua as the medium of instruction for the subject of Chinese Language and offers vocational courses to widen students' career choices and enhance their competitiveness.

HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity

The Trust donated HK$3.7 million to the Hong Kong Institute of Contemporary Culture in 2004 to enable it to acquire furniture and equipment for its HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity. To acknowledge the Trust's contribution, the School has named its north block the "Jockey Club Teaching Block". Located in Kowloon City, the School is the first and only DSS senior secondary school in Hong Kong devoted to putting creative education into practice, with the aim of nurturing students who show creative potential and preparing them to pursue careers in the creative industry.
