HKJC thanks public for donating HK$9.5 million to Sichuan earthquake victims

2 June 2008

The Hong Kong Jockey Club expressed its thanks to the public today (2 June) for their generous support of its fund-raising drive for earthquake victims in Sichuan which collected a total of over HK$9.5 million. Through the Central Government's Liaison Office in Hong Kong, the Club will pass all donations collected in Hong Kong (HK$9,440,471.43) to the Red Cross Society of China to support their relief work and rebuilding efforts. Funds raised by Beijing Hong Kong Jockey Club Clubhouse (RMB 60,000) will be passed to the Red Cross Society of China directly.

The Club has already made an immediate contribution to the relief work, donating HK$30 million to the Red Cross Society of China more than two weeks ago when the severity of the earthquake damage in Sichuan became apparent. It followed this up on 14 May by setting up collection boxes at the Club's Off-Course Betting Branches, clubhouses and racecourses, as well as the Headquarters building at Happy Valley to call on the public to donate money for the earthquake victims. The successful fund-raising drive came to an end last Wednesday, 28 May.
