The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) are joining forces to organise the Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Award for the second year in a row, as a means of promoting family harmony in Hong Kong.
At the beginning of this year, the Club took the initiative to promote inter-generational harmony among the public through the Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Award. This year, on the 30th anniversary of the Award, the Club is going a step further to promote domestic harmony among all families in Hong Kong through this popular event and its distinguished participating singers and guests.
Families are the foundation of a society. As traditional family values undergo changes with the advancement of society, however, more and more family problems have recently arisen in Hong Kong. In order to prevent family problems from escalating and to identify the root of the problems, the Club announced in July this year that it would donate HK$250 million to launch a community wide research project with the School Public Health of the University of Hong Kong. A community wide family survey targeting 20,000 families in Hong Kong will be conducted to identify the problems and come up with long-term service plans with relevant organisations addressing different family problems such as domestic violence. The project will also include public education programmes to promote the importance of family harmony among the public directly.
Hong Kong Jockey Club Chairman Mr John C C Chan said that the music industry was itself like a family. "Well-experienced singers act as mentors to emerging new stars, who in turn have the energy to give fresh impetus to the industry. Singers young and old are in the same large family and supporting each other. We hope that this year's Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Award will successfully promote the concept of family harmony and make Hong Kong a more harmonious society."
"We are a family" will be the theme for the coming Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Award. Public admission tickets for the 30th Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Award Presentation Concert will be distributed to the families as a unit, with the aim of encouraging and strengthening communications between family members who attend this popular event.
The 30th Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Award will be held at the Hong Kong Coliseum at 7:30 pm on Saturday 19 January 2008. Details of ticketing arrangements will be announced by RTHK later.
