Jockey Club announces details of a£į?Philanthropy for Better Citiesa£į? - Hong Konga£į?s first international philanthropy forum

From 22 to 23 September, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust will organise the first international philanthropy forum in Hong Kong under the theme of “Philanthropy for Better Cities”. The focus will be on metropolitan social issues and the role of philanthropy in addressing them. This forum will kick off the Hong Kong International Philanthropy and Social Enterprise Week, and will serve as a platform for global, Asia and local philanthropists and industry experts to share best practices and facilitate future collaboration. Delegates will exchange ideas on different metropolitan social issues such as youth and education, ageing and elderly care, environment and sustainability, and community inclusion.

Today (20 April), the Club’s Executive Director, Charities and Community, Leong Cheung; Under Secretary for Home Affairs Florence Hui; Chairman of the Social Enterprise Summit Organizing Committee Dr Jane Lee; and Council Member of Hong Kong General Chamber of Social Enterprise Sania Yau attended a press conference to announce details of the “Philanthropy for Better Cities” forum, as well as Hong Kong International Philanthropy and Social Enterprise Week.

Mr Cheung explained that the Club’s Charities Trust, in its role as a dynamic and transformative philanthropic organisation, seeks out the root causes of social issues and collaborates with partners  to implement innovative solutions. As the convener of the “Philanthropy for Better Cities” forum, the Trust aims to provide a platform to exchange ideas and establish long-term cooperative relationships, with the overall objective of building Hong Kong into a better city.

The two-day “Philanthropy for Better Cities” forum will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Themes will include “Youth and Education”, “Ageing and Health”, “Environment and Sustainability”, “Innovation and Technology” and “Private–Public Partnerships”. Over 1,000 local and global philanthropists, industry experts and delegates, especially from the Asia Pacific and Greater China regions, are expected to attend.  Some of the confirmed international speakers are:
