Jockey Club continues to support Le French May

03/18/2015

For the fourth consecutive year, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust is the major partner of the Le French May to promote Sino-French cultural exchange, sponsoring four highlight programmes and an educational programme with a funding of HK$9.2 million.

Today (18 March), Club Steward Michael T H Lee joined Under Secretary for Home Affairs Florence Hui, Consul-General of France in Hong Kong and Macau Arnaud Barthelemy and Chairman of the Board of Le French May Andrew Yuen to announce programme details at a press conference.

Mr Lee said the Jockey Club was honoured to be the major partner of Le French May for the fourth year and to support the Jockey Club Community Outreach and Arts Education Programmes. "Now greatly expanded, these programmes aim to reach about 25,000 people, especially young people, students and local artists. The Club will also be sponsoring 2,000 complimentary tickets for underprivileged students, and supporting special programmes for visually- or hearing-impaired audiences."

From May to June, some 49,000 people are expected to enjoy a diverse mix of trust-sponsored programmes, ranging from the world premiere Chamber Opera La Double Coquette and Hip-hop ballet The Roots by Compagnie Accrorap, to Hong Kong's first major retrospective on modern architectural giant Le Corbusier and new media art exhibition Beyond The Sound.

To celebrate the Festival, the Club will also organise special French-themed nights of racing and entertainment at Happy Valley Racecourse on Wednesday 6, 13 and 20 May.
