Jockey Club promotes Sino-French cultural exchange with Le French May

This year The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, major partner of the Le French May since 2012, is contributing over HK$7 million to fund six highlight programmes and an educational programme promoting Sino-French cultural exchange to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between France and China.

Today (26 February), Club Chairman T. Brian Stevenson joined Consul-General of France in Hong Kong and Macau Arnaud Barthélémy and Under Secretary for Home Affairs of the Hong Kong SAR Florence Hui to announce programme details at a press conference.

Mr Stevenson said the Jockey Club was very honoured to be the major partner of Le French May for the third year and support educational programme for visual arts and performing arts. 55,000 people are expected to attend, including over 2,000 underprivileged students who can enjoy the performances with free tickets offered by the Club’s Charities Trust.

The Trust-sponsored programmes being staged between May and August comprise Counter-Tenor Philippe Jaroussky with the Venice Baroque Orchestra; The Mirror by Théatre des Asphodèles; French Shadows: All Eyes on China; New Circus (L’Immédiat) by Camille Boitel; Palaces on the Seas: The Golden Age of French Ocean Liners; and Crossing Signs by Fabienne Verdier.

To celebrate the Festival, the Club will also organise special French-themed nights of racing and entertainment every Wednesday at Happy Valley Racecourse between 14 and 28 May.
