01/14/2014

To meet the increasing demand for medical services in the Tsuen Wan and Kwai Tsing districts, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has donated HK$84 million to Yan Chai Hospital to redevelop four hospital blocks into a 11-storey Community Health and Wellness Centre to improve services and medical facilities. Some 300,000 people a year, including elderly and low-income families, are expected to benefit when redevelopment is completed.

Today (14 January), Jockey Club Steward Dr Eric Li Ka Cheung joined Yan Chai Hospital Advisory Board Chairman Tang Yew Zeo-chi, Board Chairman Raymond Leung, Tsuen Wan District Officer Jenny Yip, Tsuen Wan District Council Chairman Chan Iu-seng, Hospital Authority Cluster Chief Executive (Kowloon West) Dr Nancy Tung and guests to officiate at the Centre’s topping-out ceremony.

“The Club is honoured to take part in the Redevelopment Project together with the Hospital Authority and Yan Chai Hospital Board, to improve the medical facilities and services for residents in Tsuen Wan and Kwai Tsing districts,” Dr Li said.

On behalf of Yan Chai Hospital Advisory Board, Mr Raymond Leung thanked the Club’s donation of HK$84 million and the support from local community which made the redevelopment project possible.

The redeveloped Community Health and Wellness Centre is expected to be completed by mid 2014. It comprises a Health Resource Centre, Primary Care Centre and Specialist Care Centre, providing multi-rehab services, family medicine services, a specialist outpatient department, adolescent services and community nursing services.

The Club has been supporting Yan Chai Hospital since 1973 with donations amounting to some $140 million. Apart from the redevelopment project, the Club has supported the Moral and Civic Education Award Scheme, subsidised the construction cost of Yan Chai Hospital Multi-Services Complex and funded its expansion projects.
