Legendary former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel made another memorable stop today (2 December) when he joined Chief Executive Officer of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges to visit Lam Tai Fai College in Sha Tin.

The College, which has become renowned in recent years for nurturing sporting talent, is one of 15 local secondary schools participating in the Jockey Club School Football Development Scheme under a Club-funded collaboration with Manchester United, aimed at bringing international coaching standards to youth football in Hong Kong.

In line with its mission of enhancing the quality of life for all Hong Kong people, the Club has made enormous contributions to the city through tax and charitable donations. In particular, the Club has been a keen supporter of sports development in Hong Kong, with its contributions to local football development exceeding HK$170 million over the past few years.

Danish international Schmeichel, who played nearly 300 games for United and was a key member of their treble-winning (European Champions League, English Premiership and English FA Cup) side of 1999, chatted with some of the school's young footballers before acting as coach to school teams playing short challenge matches.  Mr Engelbrecht-Bresges, himself a former professional footballer in Germany before joining the horse racing industry, served as coach to their opponents.
