Jockey Club drama project helps audience of 25,000 appreciate family harmony

10/05/2013

The 3Hs Family Drama Project, held under the auspices of “FAMILY: A Jockey Club Initiative for a Harmonious Society”, successfully disseminated the message of family health, happiness and harmony (3Hs) to over 25,000 spectators who attended 100 primary school musical performances over the past year.

The project, in collaboration with The Hong Kong University’s School of Public Health and The Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong (BGCA), was concluded today (5 October) with a finale performance attended by the Club’s Executive Director, Charities, Douglas So, Under Secretary for Food and Health Professor Sophia Chan, FAMILY Project Principal Investigator Professor T H Lam, Social Welfare Department (Family & Child Welfare) Assistant Director Fung Man-chung and BGCA Honorary Secretary David Yau.

Noting that the programme disseminated the message of family health, happiness and harmony in musical performances, Mr So said it was very encouraging that over 60% of participants found the programme helpful in establishing a harmonious family life and raising their health awareness.

The study led by Professor Lam also found that some 60% of nearly 7,500 participants polled believed the project fostered their family harmony. Professor Lam said he was delighted to see the 3Hs Family Drama Project achieve world-leading accomplishments by combining the elements of arts and science.

Launched a year ago, the 3Hs Family Drama Project spread the message of family harmony through an interactive musical drama with the theme of family health, happiness and harmony, as well as positive family communication.  Supporting activities included scriptwriting and lyric-writing workshops and competitions, as well as an “Express Love to Family Members” online incentive scheme which attracted some 7,000 entries.

Judges selected the best 100 entries for display at an exhibition staged as part of the closing ceremony.
