05/06/2013

An exhibition of works by renowned French artist Jean Cocteau opened today (6 May) as one of four highlight programmes of Le French May being sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. This is the second year for the Trust to be the Major Partner of the annual festival, contributing HK$6 million that also covers an educational programme.

Jockey Club Deputy Chairman Dr Simon S O Ip joined the Minister of Foreign Affairs of France Laurent Fabius, Chief Secretary for Administration Carrie Lam, French Ambassador in China Sylvie Bermann, French Consul General in Hong Kong and Macau Arnaud Barthelemy, Association Culturelle France-Hong Kong Chairman Dr Andrew Yuen and the Exhibition Curator Ioannis Kontaxopoulos at the Hong Kong City Hall to officiate at the opening ceremony.

More than 53,000 people are expected to enjoy the highlight programmes, comprising the Jean Cocteau exhibition entitled Spirit of the 20th century Parisian scene, the opera Tales of Hoffman, the musical Le Cabaret and a Rene Burri’s photo exhibition running through to August. In addition, home-grown Opera Hong Kong and Theatre Noir will be heavily involved in some of the productions, bringing cultural exchanges between France and Hong Kong to a higher level.
