01/16/2013

Member of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Equestrian Team Kenneth Cheng will soon have another chance to shine at top international level, as he has secured a coveted seat for the upcoming Hong Kong Masters five-star event.

It was announced today (16 January) at a press conference that Cheng had earned an admission ticket for the inaugural CSI5* Hong Kong Masters, one of the highest-standard jumping competitions recognised by the International Equestrian Federation.  The event will be held from 28 February to 2 March and Cheng, together with his team-mate Raena Leung, will compete against 31 elite riders from around the world for total prize money of US$1 million.  Cheng’s qualification is a further endorsement of the Club's long-standing support for equestrian sports and its dedication to raising the standard of local riders.

Hong Kong’s successful staging of the equestrian events of the Beijing 2008 Olympics and Paralympics, made possible with the Club's contributions, gained widespread praise from professionals in the sport worldwide, and strengthened the city’s international standing as an equine capital.  Hong Kong Masters will be the highest standard competition staged in Asia since the Olympics.  The Club will once again provide extensive professional support for the event, including horse transportation services and stables management.
