12/08/2012

To help the underprivileged and unemployed workers find jobs or further their career goals in Tin Shui Wai, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has donated HK$1.07 million to the CTU Education Foundation (CTU) to renovate and equip its Tin Ching Employment and Business Start Up Service Centre.

Today (8 December), the Club’s Executive Director, Corporate Affairs, Kim Mak; Employees Retraining Board Deputy Executive Director (Quality Assurance) Chak Shui-hang; CTU Education Foundation Chairman Cheng Ching-fat; Executive Committee Member and Legislative Councillor Lee Cheuk-yan; and CTU Chairman Pun Tin-chi officiated at the opening ceremony of the Centre.

“With the continued development of Tin Shui Wai, CTU’s centre in Yuen Long can no longer cater for demand,” Mr Mak told the guests. “Therefore the Club is delighted to support the new centre to help women, new immigrants and job seekers and others, so as to bring hope to them and their families.”

The new Centre is CTU’s second service base in Tin Shui Wai, providing all-round dynamic job and start-up business support for residents. A total of 9,000 trainees and 300 self-employed residents are expected to benefit from the Centre, which offers job counselling, retraining, job placements, start-up business support and information technology support. Details of the Centre are available at http://www.ctuef.org.hk/

Over the years, the Club has supported and developed a number of projects in Tin Shui Wai, including the HKJC Tin Shui Wai Telebet cum Volunteers and Training Centre to create job opportunities for residents; SkyHigh Creative Partners to nurture creative young talents; Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Jockey Club Tin Shui Wai Integrated Services Centre, one of the largest of its kind in the city; Jockey Club Tin Shui Wai Community Health Centre to provide one-stop primary healthcare services; and a Life Education Activity Programme to support special schools in the area.
