10/22/2012

The Hong Kong Jockey Club announced today (22 October) the appointment of Christoph Ganswindt to the position of Executive Director of Information Technology with effect from 1 January 2013, following a worldwide search exercise.  He will succeed Sunny Lee, who has decided to leave the Club after six years of service, but will stay on until 1 February to ensure a smooth transition.

Mr Ganswindt will be responsible for leading the Information Technology Division of the Club, which encompasses some of the largest and most complex IT operations in Asia.  IT plays a crucial role in the future business development of the Club, whose mission is to become an industry leader in the application of advanced and innovative technologies to its customer services.

Mr Ganswindt has a proven record in developing complex IT systems and solutions to address business and customer needs. Previously a Board member and Chief Information Officer (CIO) of one of the world's leading telecommunications and information technology companies, Telekom Deutschland, he has also held CIO roles in a number of other major corporations, including Lufthansa, O2, Deutsche Telekom and Indonesia's PT Satelit Palapa.

At Telekom Deutschland, he was responsible for the merger and transformation of the former T-Home and T-Mobile IT Divisions into a new IT division for the whole German mobile and fixed network business.  He is married with one son.

In announcing Mr Ganswindt's appointment, the Club expressed its appreciation to Mr Lee for contributing to many of its key IT milestones over the past six years, including the development of e-channels and smartphone apps that have greatly enhanced the Club's efficiency, capabilities and competitiveness.  Mr Lee has also played key roles in the launch of fixed-odds racing bets, the opening of Tin Shui Wai Telebet Centre, and the Club's technical support to sports lotteries in Mainland China and Taiwan.
