09/26/2012

A ground breaking and topping out ceremony of major projects was held today in Guangzhou. Being one of the major projects, the Guangzhou HKJC Equine Sport Training Centre participated in the ceremony.

Mr Xie Xiaodan, Vice Mayor of Guangzhou, Mr Huang Hehong, Secretary of the Conghua Municipal Party Committee and Director of the Conghua People’s Congress Standing Committee, and Mr Guo Qinghe, Deputy Secretary of the Conghua Municipal Party Committee and Mayor of Conghua joined Mr Kim Mak, Executive Director, Corporate Affairs of The Hong Kong Jockey Club in officiating a ground breaking ceremony of the Guangzhou HKJC Equine Sport Training Centre this morning in Conghua, Guangzhou where the Centre will be developed.

The Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games ended on a successful note and left behind valuable legacies.  To make good use of two of the legacies namely the Specific Equine Disease-Free Zone and the equestrian events venue in Conghua, The Hong Kong Jockey Club will develop horse training facilities and related buildings such as tracks, stables and equine hospital on the original site as the Guangzhou HKJC Equine Sport Training Centre. In compliance with the post-Asian Games utilization principles, the Club has paid special attention to protecting the environment when designing the project. In the future, the Guangzhou HKJC Equine Sport Training Centre will contribute to the development of the equine sport in China.

In line with the municipal government’s strategy of developing tourism in Conghua, the Club will build an exhibition and tourist centre for equine sport and culture. “The purpose of the project is to develop a large-scale horse training centre well-equipped with horse training, recreation and hospitality facilities. The Centre will take an active role in promoting the equine sport in Guangdong, facilitating the training of related professionals and enhancing the exchange of equine culture between Guangzhou and Hong Kong,” Mr Mak said.
