Double honours for Jockey Club in HKICT Awards

04/03/2012

At today’s Hong Kong Information and Communications Technology (HKICT) Awards 2012 presentation ceremony, The Hong Kong Jockey Club scooped both a gold and a silver award, winning top professional recognition for its high standards in technology applications.

The Gold Award in the Best Ubiquitous Networking (Mobile Infotainment Application) category went to the HKJC Mobile Betting Service App, which allows smartphone and tablet users to access the latest racing and football information or betting service anytime or anywhere.

Recognising Hong Kong's growing community of smartphone users, the Club launched an iPhone App for its Mobile Betting Service last July and an Android App in December.  These Apps offer customers a convenient and user-friendly way to view comprehensive information on horse racing, football and the Mark Six lottery, including racecards, results and dividends, football match schedules and Mark Six draw results.  Account holders* of the Club can also place bets or make funds transfers through these Apps.

The Silver Award in the Best Business (Application) category went to the Club’s Next Generation Racing Information System (NRIS).  Developed in-house by the Club, the NRIS manages all data on Hong Kong's 1,200 active racehorses and the 750-plus races they contest a season, as well as the lifetime records of over 10,000 horses and the profiles of horse owners, trainers and jockeys.  The NRIS enables the Club to deliver the most updated and comprehensive racing information to its customers both seamlessly and effectively.

Today's presentation ceremony for the HKICT Awards 2012 was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre with Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong SAR John Tsang Chun-wah as officiating guest.  Established in 2006, the HKICT Awards receive strong support from the HKSAR Government, with its Chief Information Officer chairing the Steering Committee.  The Awards aim to promote Hong Kong as a brand leader in IT innovation by recognising the IT achievements of the city's top professionals and organisations.
