Club Steward participates in Remembrance Day Ceremony

11/14/2011

Club Steward Dr Donald K T Li attended the annual Remembrance Day Ceremony on Sunday 13 November at the Cenotaph in Statue Square, Central, to salute the fallen during the two World Wars and to wish for world peace.

After the solemn two minutes' silence and bugle call, Dr Li and other representatives laid wreaths to honour servicemen, servicewomen and civilians who gave their lives during or as a result of the two World Wars. Other participants included Government officials, Executive and Legislative Councillors, judges, consular representatives in Hong Kong, community organisations, veterans, members of ex-servicemen's associations, District Council representatives and uniformed organisations.

Remembrance Sunday services are held in many countries worldwide at 11:00 am on the Sunday nearest to 11 November, as this was the hour and date when World War I hostilities ceased in 1918.  The traditional two minutes' silence was first observed in the United Kingdom in 1919 and in Hong Kong in 1923.
