Club management joins Pink Walk to promote breast health

10/11/2011

One of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust’s latest projects to promote public healthcare was funding for the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation (BCF) to set up a breast health centre to provide quality breast screening and assessment services at affordable rates.

And to help raise the public’s awareness of such care and screening services, Club Steward Dr Donald Li joined BCF Honorary President Dr Rita Fan, the Club’s Executive Director, Charities, Douglas So, Hospital Authority Chairman Anthony Wu, and BEF Ambassador Bernice Liu at the “Pink Walk Against Breast Cancer 2011” held at the Peak on 9 October.

More than 1,600 people took part in the Walkathon and associated events, including stage performances and educational and entertaining game booths to promote breast health education and patient support services.

The Trust donated some HK$15 million to set up the Breast Health Centre in Fortress Hill in May.  Over the coming three years of the grant, the Centre will organise public education programmes that are expected to reach some 500,000 women, raising public awareness of the disease and providing mammogram screening to more than 10,000 women, including subsidizing 5,000 low-income women to have free screening services.
