Club funds Yan Chai Hospital Redevelopment Project to enhance medical care

09/12/2011

To meet the growing demand for medical services in the Tsuen Wan and Kwai Tsing districts, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has donated HK$84 million to Yan Chai Hospital to cover redevelopment of four existing blocks into a 10-storey Community Health and Wellness Centre.

Jockey Club Steward Dr Donald Li joined Secretary for Food and Health Dr York Chow and Hospital Authority Chief Executive Dr Leung Pak-yin, Yan Chai Hospital Board Chairman Edmond Lee and Advisory Board Chairman Tang Yew Zoe-chi  to officiate at the ceremony held at Yan Chai Hospital Multi-services Complex today (12 September).

Dr Li said the Club was honoured to take part in the Redevelopment Project together with the Hospital Authority and Yan Chai Hospital Board, to improve the medical facilities and services for residents in Tsuen Wan and Kwai Tsing districts.

The Club has been a staunch supporter of Yan Chai Hospital since 1973, with total donations amounting to some $140 million.  The redeveloped complex is expected to be completed by 2016 and will pioneer an innovative primary care model for Hong Kong. It will comprise a Health Resource Centre, Primary Care Centre and Specialist Care Centre, benefiting some 300,000 people including elderly and low-income families.

Key services inside the Centre include the health resources centre, multi-rehab centre, family medicine service, specialist outpatient department, adolescent service and community nursing service.
