The Club's wholehearted support to charitable and community projects

Rooted in Hong Kongover a century ago, The Hong Kong Jockey Club has been a part of the city through good times and bad, answering to the diverse needs of the community through its multifarious charitable donations.

This week, the Club's Chief Executive Officer Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges and Executive Director, Charities, Legal & Corporate Secretariat, Douglas So attended various events to support different local charitable organisations and community projects. Among them were St James' Settlement (SJS) and the "Make A Difference" (MaD) Youth Forum.

Similar to the Club, SJS has a long history in serving the local community.  Being a major donor of the Settlement, the Club provided more than HK$44 million of funding to support SJS for over 50 years. In its 60th Anniversary Cocktail cum Presentation Ceremony on 21 Jan, Chairman of St. James' Settlement, Dr David Li expressed his gratitude to the Club by presenting a certificate of appreciation to MrEngelbrecht-Bresges.

Last night, Mr Engelbrecht-Bresges and Mr So also joined the Financial Secretary, the Hon John Tsang at the opening ceremony of the "Make A Difference" (MaD) Youth Forum and met with local and international thought leaders and the youth participants, encouraging them to keep an open mind and make good use of their creativity by contributing to the society.

125th Anniversary of The Hong KongJockey Club

Founded in 1884, The Hong Kong Jockey Club is celebrating its 125th Anniversary in 2009/10 season.  Over the past 125 years, it has become one of Hong Kong's best known and respected organisations, providing the public with world-class sporting entertainment as well as being the city's major non-Government community benefactor, now donating more than HK$1 billion a year to charitable and community projects.   It has been a part of Hong Kongthrough good times and bad, sharing the city's growth and development with its people, and is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for future generations.

The Club's Chief Executive Officer Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation by the Chairman of St. James' Settlement, Dr David Li on SJS' 60th Anniversary Cocktail as a token of thanks for the Club's support for more than half a century.
