HKJC Equestrian Team members Patrick Lam and Kenneth Cheng claim gold and bronze medals in jumping events of 11th National Games

Some brilliant riding from Hong Kong Jockey Club Equestrian Team member Patrick Lam earned him the gold medal in the individual Jumping competition of the 11th National Games of the People's Republic of China today (27 October), while his teammate Kenneth Cheng took the bronze.

The two medals come on top of the team bronze won last Sunday by the Hong Kong Equestrian Team, which comprises Lam, Cheng and fellow Hong Kong Jockey Club Equestrian Team Samantha Lam, as well as Junior Team member Jacqueline Lai.  Between them, the team have written a new chapter in the history of equestrian sport in Hong Kong by claiming the SAR's first-ever equestrian medals at the National Games, one gold and two bronze. 

Today was the last day of the equestrian competition, staged at Jinan International Racecourse in Shandong.  Lam performed faultlessly in the individual event, jumping two clear rounds.  "The meaning of this gold medal is tremendous," he said after the presentation.  "The gold belongs to all Hong Kong people, my teammates and family members.  Without their support and the sponsorship from The Hong Kong Jockey Club, which made it possible for me to focus on preparations for the Games, I wouldn't have been able to gain this shining gold."

Another team member, Kenneth Cheng, also rode superbly to win the bronze medal in today's event, accruing only eight faults.
