HK Equestrian Team claims bronze medal in 11th National Games

The Hong Kong Equestrian Team, comprising four members from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Equestrian Team and the Junior Team, has historically won the bronze medal of the Jumping competition in the 11th National Games of the People's Republic of China at Jinan, Shandong today (25 October). This significant victory is not just Hong Kong's maiden medal in equestrian events of the Games but also Hong Kong's first team medal in this year's Games. 

The equestrian events are being staged at the Jinan International Racecourse, Shandong. After two rounds of team competitions today, the Hong Kong Team, comprising Club Equestrian Team members Kenneth Cheng, Patrick Lam and Samantha Lam, and Junior Team member Jacqueline Lai, was placed third in the competition, making only 40 faults in the event.  Samantha Lam ranked third amongst the 33 riders, making only 8 faults. She together with her three team mates are all qualified for the individual competition. 

A total of eight teams participated in the team jumping event, including traditional strong teams from Guangdong, Shanghai and Inter Mongolia. In the event, riders had to jump twelve fences ranging from 1.3-1.4 meters. The 20 best riders are qualified for the individual event to be held on Tuesday, 27 October.
