Club 40-year support of Summer Youth Programme helps the young widen their horizons

4 July 2009

This year's school summer holidays have started earlier than usual. To provide opportunities for young people to keep both their minds and bodies active during the long holidays, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has donated HK$16.5 million for the Home Affairs Department to organise the 2009 Summer Youth Programme. Following the programme's official launch tomorrow (5 July), a series of activities covering arts and culture, recreation and sports will be offered across the 18 Districts of Hong Kong, encouraging young residents to take up new pursuits and learn more about their community.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club has been a long-standing supporter of the Summer Youth Programme since its inception in 1969. Young people aged 6 to 25 can enrol for a range of outdoor and indoor activities. The main theme of this year's Summer Youth Programme is "Be Confident, Be Positive, Be an Achiever ", urging young people to be strong and self-confident when facing challenges and difficulties.

The Summer Youth Programme is organised by a committee under the auspices of the Home Affairs Department, with the support from the 18 District Councils, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Hong Kong Police Force and the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, as well as various district-level voluntary associations and schools. Further details of 2009 Summer Youth Programme are available from the website www.summeryouth.org.hk.

The opening ceremony of the 2009 Summer Youth Programme will be broadcast this Sunday (5 July) at 1:15pm at TVB's Jade Channel and HD Jade Channel.
