Veterinary Services
The Hong Kong Jockey Club operates its own, state-of-the-art Equine Hospital, situated adjacent to the main stable block at Sha Tin Racecourse and occupying an area of 900 sq m.

The facility provides routine and specialist clinical care for all horses in Hong Kong, including thoroughbreds in race training and those used for equestrian purposes in the nine riding schools.

The Equine Hospital comprises an operating theatre, associated anaesthetic induction and recovery rooms and a clinical laboratory. It has a large range of diagnostic facilities including:
Computerized radiography for conducting high-definition x-ray examinations.
Digital ultrasonography, for detailed examination of soft tissues.
A gamma camera to perform bone scans, which enables accurate diagnosis of subtle bone injuries.
A performance assessment unit, including a high-speed horse treadmill, to allow thorough examination of the heart and respiratory systems of a horse.
A team of event treating veterinarians will provide clinical cover in the Hospital. The head of department is an internationally recognised specialist in equine orthopaedics. A team of a veterinary nurses, a laboratory technicians and 2 administrative staff supports the clinicians. The department includes a team of over 20 farriers.

Equine Clinic

A purpose-built equine clinic has been constructed at the venue for the Olympic equestrian events to provide both diagnostic and primary treatment services during the quarantine and Games period.

It also contains two examination rooms, a dedicated pharmacy, 10 observation stables and will be located adjacent to the Main Stabling Compound.

A farrier's workshop will be provided adjacent to the veterinary facility.
