World Cup Show Jumping at Beas River

9 October 2007

World Cup show jumping came to Hong Kong for the first time ever on 7 October, but although local rider Jennifer Chang gave it her best shot out at the Beas River Country Club, she missed the cut for the jump-off and had to settle for third place in this HK$30,000 event.

Honours in this South East Asia (SEA) league event went to visiting Malaysian rider Qabil Ambak, who produced the only clear round against the clock to win in 64.17 seconds on the 12-year-old mare Parvina. Ambak's older brother Quzier was more than four seconds faster with Calano, but hit the final fence to finish second ahead of Chang.

The winner of the SEA league will qualify for a place at the World Cup final at Gothenburg in Sweden next year.

If you missed the excitement first time, don't worry, World Cup action returns to Beas River on 11-14 October, 25-28 October and 1- 4 November.  Each of the shows also includes other equestrian competitions and, on show weekends, there will also be a carnival, including a bouncy castle, clowns, an equestrian sports exhibition and games booths, photo-taking opportunities with a miniature pony and rides in a beautiful horse-drawn carriage.
