One-year Countdown to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games

9 August 2007

A One-year Countdown to the Beijing 2008 Olympics Games celebration was held on 8 August 2007 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza in Tsim Sha Tsui.  The event was broadcast live through TVB Jade channel with the aim of sharing the joyful moment with every resident in Hong Kong.

Club Chairman John Chan was an officiating guest at the countdown ceremony alongside HKSAR Chief Executive Donald Tsang; Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR Gao Siren; President, Equestrian Committee and Chief Secretary for Administration Henry Tang; President of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, Timothy Fok; and Chairman of Hong Kong Paralympic Committee & Sports Association for the Physically Disabled Elsie Leung.

The Club has invested over HK$800 million in building the venues for the equestrian events within just a year-and-a-half.  All competition and training venues are now in use and the feedback from local and overseas equestrian riders has been very positive, with the world-class standards of the venues earning much praise. The Club has been officially recognised by the Beijing Organising Committee (BOCOG) as "Outstanding Contributor, Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Equestrian Events" in recognition of its contribution in building the venues and supporting facilities.
