Olympic mascots to greet Hong Kong citizens at Sha Tin Racecourse

1 December 2006

As a further initiative to stimulate public awareness and knowledge of the 2008 Olympic Games and the Olympic equestrian events in Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Jockey Club will stage an Exhibition on the public concourse of Sha Tin Racecourse over the weekend of 9/10 December during the Hong Kong International Racing Festival.  The five Beijing Olympic Games mascots, collectively named FuWa, will be on hand to meet Hong Kong citizens.

In his announcement of the exhibition today, Kim Mak, the Club's Executive Director, Corporate Development, said visitors would be able to see models of the two key competition venues in Beijing -the National Stadium and the National Aquatic Centre - highlighting their innovative designs.

The exhibition would also give local residents a better understanding of the Olympic equestrian events in Hong Kong and an update on venue construction progress. Among other exhibits will be selected souvenirs for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The exhibition will open from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday 9 December and from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm the following day.  Five hundred secondary school students will attend an opening ceremony scheduled for the afternoon of 9 December, in which they will share their views and experience with former Olympians and Paralympians from the Mainland and Hong Kong.

As the annual Hong Kong International Races will be held on 10 December, only adults will have access to the venue that day. The Club therefore recommends those under 18 to visit the exhibition on the first day.
