BOCOG Executive Vice President visits Sha Tin Racecourse

16 November 2006

A delegation of the Beijing Organising Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) led by Executive Vice President Wang Wei visited Sha Tin and Fanling on 15 and 16 November to receive an update on venue construction for the equestrian events of the 2008 Olympics.

On 15 November, Club Chairman John Chan hosted a dinner for the delegation in the Stewards' Box at Sha Tin Racecourse, where they were also able to enjoy the night race meeting.  The Club's Chief Executive Officer - Designate Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges and Executive Director of Membership Services Billy Chen introduced to the delegation on the Club's operation and the new Beijing Clubhouse which will be opened in 2008, in good time for the Olympics.  Wang Wei was especially struck by the design of the Beijing Clubhouse, which combines traditional Chinese courtyard style with uniquely contemporary interior design.

Mr Engelbrecht-Bresges and Head of Public Affairs June Teng welcomed the delegation to Sha Tin Racecourse again the following day, 16 November, to give them a first-hand look at the Club's facilities and progress of the equestrian event venue construction.   After Head of Racing Operations John Ridley had outlined the work in hand for the 2008 Olympic equestrian events, the delegation visited the Racing Laboratory and Equine Hospital, which left Wang Wei and his colleagues deeply impressed with the Club's globally acclaimed horse racing facilities.  The delegation then visited the venue for the cross-country competition in Fanling.
