Jockey Club helps Open University produce high quality audio-visual learning materials

24/03/2011

The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) today (24 March) unveiled its Jockey Club Audio-Visual Production Centre established with a donation of HK$15.56 million from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust to support the university’s diversified teaching programmes.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, attended by OUHK Council Chairman Dr Eddy Fong, Deputy Chairman Edward Cheung, President Prof John Leong and other guests, Club Chairman T Brian Stevenson said the partnership between the Club and OUHK dated from the first donation made in 1993.  “With the advancement in technologies and use of high definition and digitalisation of audio-visual productions, the Club sees the donation to the Centre benefiting thousands of people using these distance learning materials.”

Mr Stevenson noted that the Club had long been committed to education and training as the foundation for the sustained growth of society, having donated more than HK$3 billion to support such projects over the past decade alone.

Dr Fong thanked the Jockey Club for its donation to establish the Centre.  He said the Centre would play a significant role in producing more high-quality videos for various users as well as serving as a teaching laboratory for the creative writing and film arts students to practise video production skills.

The 242-square-metre Centre comprises five sections, namely the AV Editing Suite, Audio Recording Booth, AV Production Studio, Control Room and Filming Editing Laboratory. It is well-furnished with a complete suite of high-definition audio-visual production equipment for in-house production. It also allows creative writing and film arts students to practice video production skills.

It is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for the production of quality educational TV programmes for broadcast to OUHK students and the public, and the development of visual and kinaesthetic learning materials to enrich students’ learning experience and strengthen its course development. It will also contribute to the training of creative talents that Hong Kong needs.
