Three-day FAMILY Fun Fest brings treats for all to Sha Tin

25/12/2010

With the main theme of this year’s Sha Tin District Festival being “Harmonious Family”, the project team of “FAMILY: A Jockey Club Initiative for a Harmonious Society” is taking the opportunity to promote Health, Happiness and Harmony (the 3Hs) amongst families in the district by staging a three-day “Jockey Club FAMILY 3Hs Fun Fest” at Sha Tin Sports Ground from 25-27 December.

FAMILY is one of the projects initiated by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.  Today (25 December), the Club’s Executive Director, Charities, Douglas So joined Under Secretary for Food and Health Professor Gabriel Leung; Sha Tin District Chairman Wai Kwok Hung; Sha Tin District Officer Do Pang Wai Yee; FAMILY Project Principal Investigator Professor T H Lam and other guests to perform the opening ceremony.

Mr So said he was honoured to take part in this event which only takes place every four years. “Through this Fun Fest, we hope to strengthen the residents’ bond with their families through this event so to foster 3Hs,” he commented, noting that the Club was closely connected with Sha Tin. “This year the mascot of Sha Tin District Festival is the horse. What’s more, there are many facilities related to the Club within the district, catering to the needs of residents, such as Sha Tin Racecourse, Penfold Park, Hong Kong Sports Institute, Jockey Club Ti-I College and Jockey Club Centre for Positive Ageing.”

Professor Leung thanked the Trust for its support to the Fun Fest to foster family harmony, providing an opportunity for residents to enjoy the activities with their families.

The “Jockey Club FAMILY 3Hs Fun Fest” is one of the signature events of the Festival and will promote the 3Hs to Sha Tin residents through game booths, exhibition panels and performances, such as horseback riding, laser war games, rock climbing, and jazz band and magic performances.  Further details of the Fun Fest are available at www.stfestival.org.hk (Chinese only).

FAMILY: A Jockey Club Initiative for a Harmonious Society is a citywide project launched by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust with HK$250 million funding, in collaboration with the School of Public Health of The University of Hong Kong.  The project aims to identify the sources of family problems, devise suitable preventive measures and promote the “3Hs” through a citywide household survey, intervention projects and public education programmes.  Further details of FAMILY are available at www.family.org.hk.
