Police salute the Club's advanced alarm system

6 April 2009

The Hong Kong Jockey Club received a Gold Award in the ''Prevention of False Alarms Awards 2008'' from the Hong Kong Police Force on 3 April in recognition of its comprehensive security facilities and commitment to fulfil stringent security operational rules.

As an organisation striving for excellence in every aspect of its operations, the Club has installed an advanced alarm system at its network of 106 Off-Course Betting Branches to safeguard its property, staff and customers.  The system is regularly maintained and closely monitored by its Security Department around the clock to ensure normal functioning.  In addition, a special team has been deployed to confirm on the spot whether an alarm is true or false before calling for police help, thereby reducing the demand for police manpower due to false alarms.

According to police information, the number of false alarms in Hong Kong in 2008 was 16,615, representing 0.557% of all alarm calls.  In comparison, the Club's false alarm rate was only 0.07%, nearly 90% lower than the industry average.  In recognition of this outstanding achievement, the Club was presented with the Gold Award in the category of 100 to 500 alarm subscribers.
