Accessible hire car service launched for wheelchair users with HKJC funding

21 July 2008

Wheelchair users and their companions will be able to make use of a convenient Accessible Hire Car Service starting from this week. The service is provided by the Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation with a donation of some HK$15 million by The Hong Kong Jockey Club.

The Club's donation has helped wheelchair users enjoy equal rights to make use of public transport facilities by enabling the Society to convert 20 seven-seater vehicles to accommodate wheelchairs and provide a 24-hour hire service for them. Each Accessible Hire Car can carry two wheelchairs and two companions, or one wheelchair and five companions. Service charges are based on mileage. Wheelchair users, their families and friends can take advanatage of this convenient transportation service by booking their journeys in advance.
