Finding your Mount Everest, the Spirit of the Olympics

25 January 2008

The Club's Executive Director, Corporate Development, Kim Mak was invited by leading Asian executive search company Bo Le Associates to be a keynote speaker at their Executive Forum on 24 January.

Entitled "Finding your Mount Everest, the Spirit of the Olympics", the Forum couldn't have been more timely as the Olympic torch will be carried to the summit of Everest, known in China as Qomalangma, for the first time in history as a prelude to the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

EDCD explained to the audience of senior executives and HR professionals how it had taken the Club just one week to come up with an innovative proposal to support the HKSAR Government's bid to stage the Olympic equestrian events, and how the Club's 'can do' spirit had then enabled all major construction work to be completed in less than two years.  He also talked about the challenge of hosting the "Biggest Show on Earth" and the significance to Hong Kong and its people.

"Without One Country, Hong Kong would not be a co-host; without Two Systems and Hong Kong's racing tradition, it would not be possible for us to create the best-ever Olympic equestrian venues in record time," he said. "There is certainly something for everyone in this historic event, and what it means to you depends on what you're prepared to put into it."

Mak's closing comments provided an inspirational note to the forum and provoked some lively follow-up discussions.
