Club-funded TWGHs Jockey Club Tin Shui Wai Integrated Services Centre opened to address community's needs

30 November 2007

The Hong Kong Jockey Club and the Lotteries Fund have jointly donated HK$8.6 million to support the establishment of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Jockey Club Tin Shui Wai Integrated Services Centre. The centre at Tin Heng Estate, North Tin Shui Wai was officially opened today by Financial Secretary The Hon John Tsang and Hong Kong Jockey Club Chief Executive Officer Mr Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges.

The Club has a strong commitment to contributing to the well-being of the local community. By working in partnership with Government departments, non-profit organisations and tertiary institutions to support different community initiatives, the Club hopes to improve the quality of life of the people of Hong Kong. In response to the demand for more community services in Tin Shui Wai, the Club and the Lotteries Fund have joined forces to support a plan to convert the top floor of a car park block at Tin Heng Estate into a new integrated services centre.

With a gross floor area of 1,120 square metres, the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Jockey Club Tin Shui Wai Integrated Services Centre provides enhanced community programmes and services tailored to the needs of the district, in addition to basic core programmes. Examples include the "Bicycle Culture Workshop", which brings together young people, eco-tourism and parent-child activities to develop a social enterprise; and the "Body-Mind-Spirit development of Youth" service, which provides mental health services to young people and their families.

Since 1999, the Club has supported the introduction of a number of different social projects at Tin Shui Wai including the modernisation of five existing integrated services centres in the district and the renovation and furnishing of schools. The establishment of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Jockey Club Tin Shui Wai Integrated Services Centre, Mr Engelbrecht-Bresges noted, was another good example of the Club's commitment to the community. "We hope that this centre will help the young develop their talents and assist families in enhancing rapport among their family members," he said.
