Club's CADENZA Educational Fair promotes care for the elderly

18 November 2007

Aiming to strengthen the public's understanding of elderly care issues, a special event titled "CADENZA: An Elderly Friendly Hong Kong Educational Fair" was held at the Prince of Wales Hospital's School of Public Health building in Sha Tin today (18 November). The fair was organised jointly by The Hong Kong Jockey Club's CADENZA project, the Faculty of Medicine of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Faculty of Social Science of The University of Hong Kong.

"CADENZA: a Jockey Club Initiative for Seniors" is a five-year project launched in 2006 with a Club donation of HK$380 million, with the objective of pioneering new attitudes and approaches to the way Hong Kong cares for its senior citizens in the face of a rapidly ageing population.

Among a wide variety of activities on offer at today's fair were workshops offering practical tips on different aspects of elderly healthcare such as dealing with falls. Guest speakers included gerontology specialists from Saint Louis University in the USA and Cambridge University in the UK who talked about the secrets of longevity, while an interactive exhibition helped visitors find out the latest information on elderly care issues and healthcare products.
