LIGHTING UP THE CITY TO MARK THE 300-DAY COUNTDOWN

The 300-day Countdown to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and the Olympic city dress-up programme was celebrated in style at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza in Tsim Sha Tsui on Saturday night, October 13.

Over 200 guests attended an evening of celebration, song and pyrotechnics hosted jointly by the Home Affairs Bureau and the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC).

The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, and President of the SF&OC, Mr Timothy Fok, officiated at the ceremony and were joined in the lighting up of the Olympic rings by Jockey Club CEO Mr Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, the Chief Executive Officer of the Equestrian Company, Mr Lam Woon-kwong and the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Equestrian Events Hong Kong Fund, Ms Elsie Leung.

Elite athletes and representatives of Hong Kong's sports sector joined with other celebrities, sponsors and suppliers in celebrating the 300-day countdown and the city dress-up programme.

And, as the celebrations got underway in Tsim Sha Tsui, The Jockey Club was adding its own twist to the city dress-up with a new Olympic light display on the Club's headquarters.
