HKFYG Jockey Club LEAD Centre offers new creative learning opportunities to young people

6 October 2007

To facilitate the development of creative and innovative education in Hong Kong, and promote design-based creative learning to young people, The Hong Kong Jockey Club has donated over HK$13 million to fund the Leading through Engineering, Art and Design Project (LEAD). The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups Jockey Club LEAD Centre, a training base for the Project at Cyberport, was officially opened today (6 October).

Creative education aims to nurture inquisitiveness, innovation and inventiveness in young people. By learning about design, participants explore different ways of putting their ideas into action. They learn through experimentation, through different ways of solving problems, and through integrating technology into art and music. Young people work together as a team, learning not only how to communicate, but also how to share ideas and give help to each other.

LEAD is run by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Laboratory and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The Project is funded by the Club and supported by the Government's Innovation and Technology Commission. The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups Jockey Club LEAD Centre provides ample space and a relaxing atmosphere for young people to develop their creativity.
