a£į?Striding On for Prosperitya£į? CNY float riding high with the people of Hong Kong to celebrate the Year of the Dog

02/14/2018

The Hong Kong Jockey Club will participate in the annual International Chinese New Year Night Parade for the 23rd consecutive year with a new year float on the first day of the Year of the Dog (16 February). This year’s float takes on the theme “Striding On for Prosperity”, and its design draws on artistry and creativity by combining the windmill and the horseshoe, two lucky symbols of Eastern and Western cultures, respectively.

The Club introduces its float at today’s (14 February) media preview. The unique design of lucky windmill on the float is inspired by the craftwork of the Club’s farriers. Apart from taking care of more than 1,200 horses in the Club, the Club’s farriers have also demonstrated their creativity by upcycling horseshoes and incorporating them into their craftwork.

The spinning gold windmills atop the float symbolise how the Club is riding high together with the people of Hong Kong to support community development for the betterment of our society. And the gold galloping horse on the float’s apex represents how the Club continues to make its community contributions.

HKJC Equestrian Team rider Clarissa Lyra, medallist at the 2017 Tianjin National Games, and apprentice jockey Dylan Mo Hin-tung, will join the parade to share New Year greetings with the public.

Also joining this year’s parade are dancers from “Rhythm & Tempo”, a local tap dance group founded by two Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts graduates. Together with a lion dance troupe comprising 18 lions, they will perform “Tap Lion Dance”, which integrates tap dance, traditional lion dance and contemporary music. This crossover performance demonstrates how the Club strives to keep innovating, while taking pride in its long heritage. The dance troupes will be accompanied by the Club’s “Progressing Together Cheering Team” dressed in festive outfits to share Chinese New Year greetings with the public.

Meanwhile, a special “Let’s Catch Good Fortune” game is available on the Club’s website http://campaigns.hkjc.com/cnyfloat/en/ from now until 28 February. Everyone is welcome to create their personalised “Fai Chun” messages to share with friends and family on social media.
