Club-supported Egyptian Mummies exhibition welcomes 500,000th visitor

08/11/2017

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Eternal Life – Exploring Ancient Egypt has attracted more than 500,000 visitors since its opening in June, an average of more than 8,000 every day, breaking the museum’s average daily attendance record for a thematic exhibition. Solely sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, this unprecedented exhibition of ancient Egyptian life is being staged at the Hong Kong Science Museum until 18 October.

The Club’s Executive Director, Charities and Community, Leong Cheung, and Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Michelle Li, today (11 August) welcomed the 500,000th visitor to the exhibition, nine-year-old Hailey Tsoi.

Arts, Culture & Heritage is one of the strategic focus areas of the Club's Charities Trust, aimed at building a culturally vibrant Hong Kong, enriching lives and promoting social inclusion. The Trust has been a supporter of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department for its major exhibitions every year since 2008. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series is a partnership between the two parties launched in 2012. It supports two to three major exhibitions each year, all complemented by educational programmes.

Eternal Life – Exploring Ancient Egypt is among the initiatives the Trust is currently supporting in this area, offering visitors a chance to learn more about the mysteries of ancient Egyptian life.  It features six Egyptian mummies between 1,800 and 3,000 years old as well as some 200 other precious cultural relics from The British Museum.

The museum has designed a multimedia programme and a series of interactive exhibits, as well as a CT scanning demonstration to enhance visitors’ experience.

Two other current exhibitions under The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series are Hall of Mental Cultivation of The Palace Museum – Imperial Residence of Eight Emperors being held at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum and Longevity and Virtues: Birthday Celebrations of the Qing Emperors and Empress Dowagers at the Hong Kong Museum of History.
