HKJC Tuen Mun Public Riding School Open Day draws large crowd of visitors on Mother's Day

05/14/2017

More than 5,000 visitors flocked to The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) Tuen Mun Public Riding School's annual Open Day today (14 May). Families had fun on Mother's Day, by participating in numerous activities, photo sessions, and learning more about horses and equestrian sports.

Highlights of the day included pony rides, stable visits, photo-taking opportunities with mini ponies and giant horse shoes, game booths, bouncing castles, as well as equestrian competitions and demonstrations by HKJC Junior Equestrian Training Squad and riding instructors.

As a world-class horse racing organisation, the Club has been a long-standing supporter of equestrian sports in Hong Kong. In the early 50s, the Club established equestrian facilities at Beas River to train local equestrian riders. Today, the Club operates three public riding schools, which are located in Tuen Mun in the New Territories, as well as  Pok Fu Lam and Lei Yue Mun Park on Hong Kong Island. All three schools attract a total of 60,000 local visitors of all ages each year, to learn riding skills and enter different levels of competition.
Equestrian sports have become even more popular today, following the equestrian events of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, which were held in Hong Kong with the Club's support. The HKJC Equestrian Team and HKJC Junior Equestrian Training Squad were established that same year with the aim of developing the skills of Hong Kong's most talented riders.
