Jockey Club brightens up the community with its a£á?Galloping Horse Illuminates the New Yeara£á? CNY float

01/25/2017

The Hong Kong Jockey Club will participate in the annual International Chinese New Year Night Parade for the 22nd consecutive year on the first day of the Chinese New Year (28 January). Combining the elements of new and old, Chinese and Western, this year’s HKJC parade team will dazzle with a fusion of traditional Chinese artistry and contemporary creativity. Highlights include the HKJC float carrying the theme of “Galloping Horse Illuminates the New Year” and a Hip-hop Lion Dance. Apprentice jockey Kei Chiong, winner of the 2015/16 Tony Cruz Award and Most Popular Jockey award, and Raena Leung, HKJC Equestrian Team rider, will join the parade and spread New Year greetings to the public and visitors.

The HKJC float this year integrates cut-out art - a traditional Chinese art form - with advanced LED lighting technology. Mixing ancient and modern, light and shade, it will convey the Club’s support for brightening Hong Kong’s community life over many years. On top of the float is a magnificent golden galloping horse, which signifies the Club’s commitment to creating a brighter future for Hong Kong.
Meanwhile, reflecting Hong Kong’s unique combination of Chinese and Western culture, a dance troupe will present a Hip-hop Lion Dance, which integrates hip-hop with the art of traditional lion dance set to contemporary music.  To encourage the younger generation to achieve their full potential, the Club has also invited a group of young dancers from the Project Dance Studio of The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups to join the lion dance troupe.

The Hip-hop Lion Dance Troupe, together with the Club’s Progressing Together Cheering Team dressed in their Chinese New Year outfits, will join the parade and spread New Year greetings, wishing everyone a successful and joyful new year. During the parade, the Club will also distribute sets of Fai Chun featuring the unique design of the Progressing Together Cheering Team.

A special “Let’s Catch Good Fortune” game is available on the Club’s website 203.215.253.53/goodfortune from now until 31 January. Everyone is welcome to create a series of unique Fai Chun messages to share with friends and family through social media.

Following the International Chinese New Year Night Parade, the HKJC float will be on show at Sha Tin Racecourse* on Chinese New Year Raceday, which will be held on the third day of the Chinese New Year (30 January).

*All racegoers must be aged 18 or above.
