11/18/2016

The 2016 LONGINES China Tour Hong Kong Jockey Club Cup Guangzhou Final, an international equestrian competition sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club and organised by the Chinese Equestrian Association (CEA), opened today (18 November) at the equestrian arena inside the Guangdong Huangcun Sports Training Centre. This is the third consecutive year that the Club has sponsored this 3-star show jumping event, with international and Mainland riders including Olympic medallists taking part, giving spectators a chance to enjoy top level international equestrian competition.

“The co-operation between the Club and the Chinese Equestrian Association in supporting the development of equestrian sports in China dates back to the 1980s. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Cup Guangzhou Final was held last year in an equestrian arena constructed by the Club. We are delighted that this international standard arena will once again be the venue for this year’s Hong Kong Jockey Club Cup Guangzhou Final”, said the Club’s Executive Director of Customer and Marketing Richard C K Cheung at the dinner reception. In addition to its co-operation with the CEA, the Club is also working with various departments and organisations in the Chinese Mainland, including the General Administration of Sport, aiming to support sports development in the country.

Director of the Cycling and Fencing Sports Administrative Center of the General Administration of Sport Wang Wei thanked the Club and other sponsors for their support. “We have worked hard to develop the China Tour into a Fi?¢Xdi?¢Xration Equestre Internationale (FEI) star brand competition. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to The Hong Kong Jockey Club for their continued support for the competition, as well as their efforts and contributions in promoting equestrian sport and the China Tour.” Mr Wang said.

The China Tour was first launched in 2013 and comprises four legs which take place in major cities in China each year with the aim of promoting equestrian sport.

The Club is a long-standing supporter of sports development. Since 1984, the Club has donated more than 1,000 retired racing thoroughbreds to sports teams in different provinces and cities. The Club also constructed the equestrian venues of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games and provided expert support services. It was honoured as an “Outstanding Contributor” for both events.  Since 2014, the Club has been co-operating with the General Administration of Sport to promote Community Fitness Programmes. The Club is also funding four sports parks in Guangdong Province.
