a£á?Progressing Together for an Auspicious Yeara£á? CNY float spreads happiness and blessings in the Year of the Monkey

02/05/2016

The Hong Kong Jockey Club will join the annual International Chinese New Year Night Parade for the 21st consecutive year on the first day of the Chinese New Year (8 February). Under the theme of “Progressing Together for an Auspicious Year”, the float expresses the Club’s firm commitment to creating a brighter future for Hong Kong.

The HKJC float this year blends traditional Chinese festive elements with modern design concepts. The centrepiece is a magnificent galloping golden horse and a Winning Arch-shaped LED screen that showcases the Club’s milestones and major contributions over its more than 130 years of history.

Echoing the theme of this year’s float, the eleven members of the Club’s “Progressing Together Cheering Team” will join the parade dressed in their all-new Chinese New Year outfits. Accompanied by around fifty Chinese dancing lions, they will form an eye-catching parade team of over 160 performers. Sharing auspicious Year of the Monkey greetings and wishing everyone good fortune and great happiness, they will express the Club’s commitment to join hands with everyone in Hong Kong to create a better future for all.

Each member of the “Progressing Together Cheering Team” represents one of the Club’s ten areas of charitable contribution: education and training; youth development; sports and recreation; environmental protection; rehabilitation services; medical and health; elderly services; arts, culture and heritage conservation; family services; emergency and poverty relief. Together they will liven up their parade with their positive energy and enthusiastic performance.

The community has been actively involved in preparing the HKJC float. Under the guidance of renowned Chinese calligrapher Lui Chiu-wing, primary school students have created a gigantic couplet bearing the words “Riding High Together for a Better Future”. This will be displayed during the parade to wish everyone good luck and prosperity in the coming year. The students, who have never practised Chinese calligraphy before, had earlier taken part in “Little Calligrapher Workshops”, organised by the Club and conducted by Mr Lui with the aim of igniting their interest in this traditional art form.

A special “Let’s Catch Good Fortune” game is available on the Club’s website 203.215.253.53/cnyfloat from now until 10 February. By catching the falling peach blossoms, players can create a series of unique Fai Chun messages to be shared with friends and family through social media or email.

During the parade, the Club will distribute sets of Fai Chun featuring the unique design of the “Progressing Together Cheering Team”.

Following the International Chinese New Year Night Parade, the Club’s CNY float will be on show at Sha Tin Racecourse* on Chinese New Year Raceday, which will be held on the third day of the Chinese New Year (10 February). Highlights of the raceday include the Chinese New Year Cup and the Triple Trio, which will carry an estimated payout of HK$28 million**. All racegoers will receive a lucky ball pen and an Instant Win card upon admission to the racecourse, the latter offering them the chance to win a 24K gold plated ornament***.

*All racegoers must be aged 18 or above.

**The holder of a single $10 winning unit for the Triple Trio could take home as much as HK$28 million.
