11/27/2015

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Cup Guangzhou Final, finale of the China Tour, an international equestrian competition organised by the Chinese Equestrian Association (CEA), saw the first of three days of competition today (27 November), with more than twenty international and Mainland riders taking part in top-level events. As both the title sponsor and venue sponsor, The Hong Kong Jockey Club is pleased to support the competition and to have funded and built the international standard equestrian arena inside the Guangdong Huangcun Sports Training Centre as a venue for this 3-star Jumping event.

A dinner reception, hosted by the Club, was held after today’s competitions to mark its cooperation with the CEA in further promoting the development of equestrian sport in Mainland China. “As venue sponsor, the Club was also pleased to fund and construct the international standard equestrian arena inside the Guangdong Huangcun Sports Training Centre as the venue for the Hong Kong Jockey Club Cup Guangzhou Final. We believe this modern arena will help create favourable conditions for the future development and internationalisation of equestrian sport in Mainland China”, said the Club's Deputy Chairman Anthony W K Chow.

Deputy Director of the Cycling and Fencing Sports Administrative Center of the General Administration of Sports Ji Daoming thanked the Club and other sponsors for their support. “This is the third year we have organised the China Tour. We have worked hard to develop it into a Fi?¢Xdi?¢Xration Equestre Internationale (FEI) star brand competition. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to The Hong Kong Jockey Club for funding the construction of the arena. We would also like to thank them for their efforts in promoting equestrian sport and the China Tour.” Mr Ji said.

The Club’s strategic co-operation with the CEA was further strengthened in May this year. In addition to its continuing title sponsorship of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Cup Guangzhou Final in the coming years, the Club will also work with the CEA to stage horse race sporting events, with the aim of developing more public interest in, and support for, equestrian sports development in Mainland China.

As one of the world’s leading horse racing, sports entertainment and philanthropic organisations, the Club has been a long-standing supporter of sports and equestrian development in Mainland China. Since 1984 the Club has donated more than 1,000 retired racing thoroughbreds to sports teams in different provinces and cities. The Club also supported the successful staging of the equestrian events of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, and was honoured to be recognised as an ‘Outstanding Contributor’ to both events.
